Motion under Gravity

MOTION UNDER GRAVITY

When a body drop from a certain height, it moves towards the ground and its velocity increases continuously till it strike the ground and then body get some acceleration which is called acceleration due to gravity and it is define as follow

“The acceleration produces in a free falling body due to force of gravity is called acceleration due to gravity”.

Acceleration due to gravity is denoted by ‘g’   and its value is 9.8 m/s2.

DIFFERENTIATE B/W VELOCITY AND ACCELERATION

VELOCITY

ACCELERATION

v  Velocity of the body is the rate of change of displacement.

v  Its unit is ms-1.

v  It is zero when the body at rest.

v  Acceleration of a body is the rate of change of velocity.

v  Its unit is ms-2.

v  It is zero for an object at rest or on uniform motion.

SPEED

VELOCITY

v  Speed of the body is the rate of change of distance.

v  Speed does not tell us anything about the direction of its motion.

v  It is scalar quantity.

v  It’s unit is ms-1.

v  Velocity of the body is the rate of change of displacement.

v  Velocity of the body tell us the direction on which the body is moving.

v  It is vector quantity.
